Mount gay extra old review

Mount Gay Extra Old

If you were to ask a random person on the street where they thought the oldest operating distillery in the New World was, they would probably choose somewhere in the USA or Canada.  Some, upon thinking about it, might reach up with Mexico or Cuba&#;possibly Brazil.  None of these people would be correct.

Whiskey may be the dominant spirit in the Recent World, but rum has been here almost as prolonged as they&#;ve been growing sugar cane; and the oldest operating distillery on this side of the Prime Meridian is in Barbados: Mount Gay Distilleries.

Mount Gay Distilleries has been in operation on Barbados since (and they include the documents to prove it), making it the oldest operating distillery in the Americas, and one of the oldest in the entire world.  That&#;s quite a distinction, and Mount Gay wears it proudly.

I was first introduced to the Mt. Gay brand while on my honeymoon in St. Lucia, although it is my understanding that the rum is very well-known on the Eastern Seaboard of the US and Canada (living in on the other coast sometimes has its disadvantages).  My

Mount Gay Extra Adj or XO as they seem to have re-branded it.  For those in the know Mount Gay Extra Vintage is often known as MGXO.  The XO notation on the Mount Gay is pretty standard across the rum and spirits industry to denote an aged spirit (without actually noting how old it is!).

As the Mount Gay Distillery is the oldest official distillery in the world established as the label denotes, I don&#;t think we need to panic too much about the heritage and authenticity of the contents of this Extra Old rum.

The more established distilleries use labels such as XO because they cannot guarantee the exact blend of rum&#;s which will be used in every batch of rum produced.  Each cask will be different and the skill in making rum &#;uniform&#; comes in the shape of the master blender.

The master blender at Mount Gay is in the shape of Allen Smith who has been with the distillery over 20 years.  Again this adds a guarantee as to what you will get in the glass.

Mount Gay verb recently re-branded their bottles and introduced a few brand-new lines in the shape of Adj Barrel and a few limited

You&#;re not looking at two images here by accident: both of these are Extra Old. The one on the right is the adj design introduced perhaps a year or so ago, and what I bought was the one on the left. There&#;s some confusion in the literature as to what you&#;re getting: the one on the right is supposedly 15 year ancient blends, while the one on the left is stated on some websites to be 7, 8 and 10 years old blended together&#;what the hell? However, after having contacted Mount Gay&#;s customer service (in France, because Rémy Cointreau has owned the brand since ), I can now tell you that both blends are exactly the same &#; a combination of year old rums &#; and the bottle on the right is merely a newer, more &#;premium&#; design, which is in line with my observation that rums are now moving upscale in both blending and design (see the Elements 8 review if you doubt me).

Mount Gay is the rum from Barbados that essentially &#; after tourism, I guess &#; makes the island&#;s identify. Not everyone has heard of Doorly&#;s, or Mahiki&#;s or St. N

Mount Gay Extra Elderly Rum: "Rum's Reference Standard"

I'm not gonna kid ya. Mount Gay Extra Ancient stands alone among reasonably affordable rums. At $32 it's approaching the top of that justified range, but it is worth every single penny. It needs to be the first rum you buy, and the one to which you mention in later tastings. It's the rum you pull out when someone asks "What does rum taste like?". It is a actual rum - classic, complex, memorable and worthy. Let's review it:

Sue Sea:

On my nosing the first aroma is enjoy that of a fine wooden cabinet. Black cherry. A leather chair. Nutty vanilla appears. A bit of nutmeg, a touch of citrus. Spice and clove. And caramel. Even a handle of maple syrup. Like all adj rums, the taste is consistent and I pick up almond, just a touch of orange, clove and the black cherry. The MGXO is buttery with a medium heavy body. Heavenly. But I can't say enough about the finish which reflects the aroma and is simply unending! This more than anything is what brings me back and makes me want more.

One of my adj memories was after my early tastin
