After the city’s producer of the annual L.A. Pride festival announced it would move the event from West Hollywood, city leaders are aiming to host a new Pride celebration.
More than 40% of West Hollywood residents identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, and for 40 years, West Hollywood has been the host city for the largest LGBTQ pride events in Southern California, according to a staff report.
Historically, the city has hosted the annual L.A. Pride parade and festival, produced by Christopher Street West. However, the nonprofit announced in that it would move the event out of West Hollywood, so the city now seeks to organize and produce its control Pride events.
On Oct. 18 the Municipality Council moved forward with a recent vendor, JJLA, to help organize the city’s Pride celebrations.

After L.A. Pride moved out of West Hollywood and into Hollywood, WeHo Pride made its grand debut, and now L.A. is privileged enough to have two inclusive festivals celebrating the city’s LGBTQ+ community, which means double the fun. WeHo Pride kicks-off on Harvey Milk Day, May 22, with a special event. WeHo Pride Weekend will take place from Friday, May 30 through Sunday, June 1 with OUTLOUD at WeHo Pride, the WeHo Pride Street Fair, the Women's Freedom Festival and Dyke March, WeHo Pride Parade, and much more!
This year's WeHo Pride Arts Festival will take place from Friday, May 23 through Sunday, May 25 with various events and programming.
Throughout the 40 days from May 22 to June 30, there will be community group events at various locations.
